At The Children’s Heart Foundation we believe that fostering diversity in research and addressing health disparities in congenital heart defects (CHD) is crucial to improving outcomes for all patients impacted by CHDs. Our Scholarship for Researchers Committed to Advancing CHD Research in Minority Communities aims to support individuals who are dedicated to conducting research on congenital heart defects and improving the health outcomes of racial and ethnic minority populations. Scholarship Details • One $10,000 scholarship awarded this year • Funds sent directly to the degree program and applied toward tuition and approved educational expenses • Application opens May 5th • Deadline to apply is August 1st • Decision notifications sent by August 29th Eligibility Criteria • Must be an incoming or current graduate student (Master’s or PhD) in a research-focused program (e.g., MPH, MSW, MSN, MSCI, PhD) • Applicants in dual degree programs (e.g., MD/MPH) are eligible • Must demonstrate a commitment to translational or clinical CHD research focused on racial and ethnic minority populations • Priority consideration given to applicants from NIH-defined underrepresented minority backgrounds Application Process 1. Application Open: March 6, 2026. Submission Deadline: June 8, 2026, due by 5:00 PM CDT. Semi-finalist Interviews: June 17 - 24, 2026. Decision Notifications: End of July, 2026. Eligibility: incoming and current graduate students (Master's or PhD) enrolled in a research-focused program (e.g., MPH, MSW, MSN, MSCI, PhD); dual-degree applicants (e.g., MD/MPH) permitted; commitment to clinical or translational research related to congenital heart defects (e.g., behavioral health sciences, public health, health services, implementation science, biostatistics, or related disciplines); commitment to research on CHDs in underrepresented and other disadvantaged populations.
