The Beth E. Marcus Scholarship Fund supports women in the Reformed Church in America (RCA) who are preparing for ministry through theological education. Women attending seminary often need tuition assistance, and the RCWM (Reformed Church Women’s Ministries) established the fund over 40 years ago in response to that need. Scholarship Details • Up to eight scholarships awarded each year • Scholarship amounts range from $300 to $1,000 • Students may reapply and receive the scholarship more than once during their course of study • Available for students enrolled at New Brunswick Theological Seminary (NBTS), Western Theological Seminary (WTS), or under care of the Ministerial Formation Certification Agency (MFCA) Eligibility Criteria • Must be a woman and a member of the Reformed Church in America (RCA) • Must be enrolled in a part-time or full-time credentialing program (DMin, Master’s, or Certificate) • Must be studying at NBTS, WTS, or participating in the MFCA program • Part-time and full-time status determined by the respective theological institution Application Process 1. Confirm eligibility as an RCA member enrolled in an approved credentialing program 2. Determine part-time or full-time status based on your institution’s definitions 3. Complete the Beth E. Marcus Scholarship application form (typically found on the RCA Women’s Transformation and Leadership website) 4. Submit any required documentation as outlined in the application instructions 5. If awarded, reapply in future years if you remain eligible and wish to be reconsidered The Beth E. Marcus Scholarship Fund was established in 1977 to honor Beth E. Marcus, director of Reformed Church Women from 1973 to 1986. She was an ordained elder in the RCA and holds the distinction of being the first female elected president of General Synod. She also served in other RCA denominational staff roles. The fund has been developed and maintained by gifts received in her honor.
