The Morehead-Cain Scholarship for Out-of-State Residents offers merit-based scholarships for students from out-of-state who are nominated by their high school counselor/administrative staff or applied to UNC early action and referred by the office of undergraduate admissions. Graduating high school seniors who wish to pursue a degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will be considered. The application to join the Morehead-Cain Class of 2030 will open on August 15, 2025. The application deadline is October 1. Out-of-state students in the United States attending a nominating school or program are eligible to apply if nominated by their school or program. The application requires creation of an application, a school counselor to submit information, a recommender, essay responses, and a final review and submission. The selection criteria are built on four pillars: leadership, character, scholarship, and physical vigor.
