Provides $50,000 to advance the scientific training of the next generation of orthopaedic physician-scientists with seed and start-up funding for promising research projects. OREF requires an Orthopaedic Surgeon licensed to practice in the U.S. and working in a U.S. institution in the role of principal investigator (PI). Residents, fellows, and orthopaedic surgeons having completed formal training within the last four years may apply. The grant requires a Letter of Intent. These grants are offered twice each year, but applicants may submit only one application per grant year. For the 2027 cycle, the RFA release date is 7/15/2026, the LOI deadline is 8/13/2026, and the application deadline is 10/15/2026.
