The Gus VonBodungen Scholarship

The Gus VonBodungen Scholarship provides financial assistance to upper-division, master's, and law students working on a degree in an environmental field. Students who attend a university in the areas served by the Louisiana Section of the Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA) are welcome to apply. Eligible students must attend a college, university, or law school located in Louisiana or the Sabine River Region of Eastern Texas, must be full-time with at least upper-division (Junior) standing and no higher than master's level, must have at least two semesters of schooling remaining at the time of the award, must hold an overall GPA of 3.00 or higher on a 4.00 scale, and must be pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree with a major in environmental engineering, physical or natural science, or public health. Students pursuing an environmental law degree are also eligible. Doctoral candidates and computer science majors are not eligible. Applicants must show through coursework, projects, or personal interest a desire to promote air pollution control and/or solid or hazardous waste management. Required application materials include a one-to-two-page resume, a one-to-two-page interest and award statement, an official transcript, a letter of recommendation from the major professor or department head, a list of current financial awards, and an interview with Louisiana Section representatives. The one-time cash scholarship is awarded in an estimated amount of $3,000–$5,000 per applicant, and the award also includes a one-year student membership in the Air & Waste Management Association. The winning applicant is expected to attend the Louisiana Section meeting in October to receive the award.
