The Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers is available to prospective teachers seeking their first certificate. Students who are committed to teaching in a majority-economically disadvantaged Texas public school after graduation are eligible to apply. Special consideration is given to residents of Texas. The Charles Butt Scholarship provides up to $8,000 – $10,000 per year, depending on program, for up to four years at 27 university-based educator preparation programs across the state. Scholarship recipients are selected by the Charles Butt Foundation in partnership with those universities through a rigorous application process. Recipients must commit to teaching in the Texas public school system in either Title I or majority economically disadvantaged schools or priority subject areas (math, science, special education, or bilingual). The program includes ongoing professional learning opportunities, mentorship, and networking through a statewide community of Charles Butt Scholars and Alumni.
