The Don B. Daily Safety Steel Intern Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate or graduate students attending a school in North America. Students with a strong interest in the steel manufacturing industry who commit to a paid summer internship at a North American steel company or industry supplier are welcome to apply. Recipients are chosen for their participation in extracurricular activities, leadership, and work experience. The scholarship was established by the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) and the AIST Foundation to commemorate the life and service to the steel industry by Mr. Daily, and provides a US$7,500 one-year scholarship preceded by a paid summer internship (up to two one-year awards per year). Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited North American university, maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, and be a citizen of the USA, Canada, or Mexico. AIST will assist in internship placement; acceptance of an internship at a company not specifically related to steel manufacturing will automatically disqualify the applicant. Required application materials include a current résumé, an essay not to exceed two pages, a minimum of one (1) recommendation letter (maximum of 5), and a current academic transcript.
