George S. & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest

The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) invites high school students (grades 9–12) to participate in the George S. & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest. This contest challenges students to write an original essay on an event, person, philosophy, or ideal associated with the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, or the U.S. Constitution. The contest aims to promote understanding of American history and values. Scholarship Details • Open to high school students in grades 9–12 • Essay length: 800–1,200 words • Essay must focus on an event, person, philosophy, or ideal linked to the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, or the Constitution • Judged on historical accuracy, clarity, organization, grammar, and documentation • The program is on the NASSP List of Approved Contests, Programs, and Activities for Students Eligibility Criteria • Open to U.S. citizens and legal residents • Applicants must attend a public, private, parochial, or home school in the United States • Students must be in grades 9–12 at the time of application Application Process 1. Research and write an original 800–1,200 word essay on an approved topic 2. Format essay according to contest guidelines 3. Submit essay to the local SAR chapter (check with your local SAR member for deadlines and submission details) 4. Essays advancing past the local level will proceed to state and national competitions 5.
