The Hertz Foundation's Graduate Fellowship award, which is based on merit (not need) consists of a cost of education allowance and a personal support stipend. Eligible applicants for prestigious Hertz Fellowships must be students of the applied physical and biological sciences, mathematics, and engineering who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States of America, and who are willing to morally commit to make their skills available to the United States in time of national emergency. Scholarship Details • Five years of graduate funding valued at up to $250,000 • Freedom to pursue research at any of 40+ participating top U.S. universities • Access to a powerful, lifelong peer network of over 1,300 Hertz Fellows • Opportunities to attend symposia, workshops, and networking events • Fellows choose between two fellowship compensation packages • Fellows make a moral commitment to use their skills in times of national emergency Eligibility Criteria • Applicants must be college seniors, first-year graduate students, or in a gap year preparing for graduate study • Must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents • Must plan to pursue a PhD in applied physical, biological, or engineering sciences • Applicants must intend to conduct graduate work at one of the Foundation’s participating schools Application Process 1. Submit an online application through the Hertz Foundation website 2. Provide academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, and personal essays 3. Participate in multiple rounds of interviews if selected as a finalist 4.
