John J. Killian Scholarship provides financial assistance to students at independent colleges in Kansas who are majoring in accounting. The scholarship is named in honor of the KSCPA's first full-time Executive Director. Qualified applicants must be full-time students enrolled as an accounting major in their junior year at an independent Kansas college or university. The award is $2,500, given to one student per year. Academic success in the accounting curriculum is required, with additional emphasis placed on grades in English, rhetoric, business, and economics. Qualifications include the applicant's involvement in extracurricular activities, willingness to comply with professional responsibility standards, and overall moral character. Students at the following schools are NOT eligible: Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, Pittsburg State University, University of Kansas, Wichita State University, and Washburn University. The deadline for the 2026-2027 academic year is February 15, 2026. Applicants must submit a completed scholarship application along with a transcript and resume, and must have two references complete a questionnaire, with one reference supporting accounting academic performance (e.g., accounting professor or other faculty).
