Lewis-McChord Family Scholarship provides financial assistance to family of military service members currently or previously assigned to the Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) area of Washington and interested in attending college in any state. The Lewis-McChord Family Scholarship Fund was established in 1989 as the Fort Lewis Military Family Member Scholarship Fund to further the educational goals of active duty, retired, and surviving spouses and children of Army Soldiers. In 2019, eligibility was expanded to include spouses and children of all branches of military service members. The Fund offers three categories of scholarships to military family members: High School Senior, Continuing Education, and Spouse. Applicants must have a valid military dependent identification card, and meet one of: child or spouse of an active duty service member stationed at or within a 50-mile radius of JBLM; surviving child or spouse of a service member last assigned to JBLM or residing within a 50-mile radius of JBLM; or child or spouse of a retired service member residing within a 50-mile radius of JBLM. High School Senior applicants must be graduating from an accredited high school or home school program and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (83%) or higher. Continuing Education applicants must be currently enrolled or pursuing enrollment at an accredited institution of higher learning. Spouse applicants must be currently enrolled or pursuing enrollment at an accredited institution of higher learning. Applicants may not be currently serving on Active Duty, may not have accepted a fully funded scholarship, and may not be prior recipients. Applications are made available around mid-January. Scholarships range from $500 to $3,000 on average. The Fund has awarded over 1 Million Dollars to over 400 recipients since 1990.
