The Massachusetts High Demand Scholarship Program is available to students at Massachusetts public and independent institutions who are pursuing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), Health Professions, Education, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Economics, or Business degree. Residents of Massachusetts who have not previously earned a bachelor's degree are eligible to apply. Recipients are chosen for their strong academic standing. Applicants must demonstrate achieving and maintaining a minimum college-level GPA of 3.0 on coursework completed after high school graduation, and must apply for financial aid using the standard Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a FAFSA equivalent application authorized by the Department of Higher Education. The 2025-2026 application is open to students at Massachusetts public and independent institutions pursuing eligible programs of study in a designated high need field. New, first-year students starting college in Fall 2025 may apply for this scholarship, but they must maintain a 3.0 GPA once enrolled to retain scholarship eligibility. Awards range up to $10,000 per year for full-time enrollment (12+ credits) and up to $5,000 per year for part-time enrollment (6-11 credits), depending on institution type.
