Matthew Carter Scholarship

The Matthew Carter Scholarship is offered to Black and African American degree-seeking college undergraduates as well as students attending a technical or trade school in Florida. Applicants who are attending a college or university must be seeking a bachelor's degree business, finance, science, social sciences, math, health, health management, art, or humanities. Residents of Manatee and Sarasota counties in Florida are welcome to apply, provided they prove leadership qualities through community service, extracurricular activities, or work. This scholarship is presented by the Gamma Xi Boulé Foundation, Inc. directly to high school seniors for academic or technical/trade school expenses. An award is issued upon proof of enrollment in a four-year accredited college/university or a technical/trade school leading towards a Certification. Eligibility Criteria: 1. Must be a graduating high school Senior from a Sarasota or Manatee county school; 2. Be a resident of Sarasota or Manatee County; 3. Be a citizen, legal permanent resident, or national of the United States; 4. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on an unweighted 4.0 scale; 5. Show evidence of readiness for and commitment to pursue college majors, including business, finance, biological / life sciences, physics, chemistry, social science, mathematics, engineering and other academic degree disciplines; 6. Submit a transcript; 7. Present proof of admission / acceptance into an accredited College or University; 8. Have a demonstrated financial and unmet need as measured by the students accepting College or University; 9. Show evidence of leadership through work, school and / or community service activities; 10. Complete the application essay; 11. Submit two letters of recommendation, including one from a high school faculty member. Completed applications must be received by April 10, 2026. All applicants for the Gamma Foundation Scholarship will be notified via email no later than May 1, 2026. The Scholarship awards a total of $16,000 per awardee with payments of $4,000 for the four years of their college career.
