Meyerhoff Scholars Program

The Meyerhoff Scholars Program is offered to graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue a Ph.D. or combined M.D./Ph.D. in the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics. Special consideration is given to students who have taken advanced placement courses in math and science, have research experience, and have strong references from science or math instructors. The program, at the forefront of efforts to increase diversity among future leaders in science, technology, engineering and related fields, has built the UMBC Meyerhoff family to more than 1,600 strong, with over 1,400 alumni across the nation. Meyerhoff Scholars receive four-year scholarships: In-State $5,000 – $15,000 per academic year; Out-of-State $10,000 – $22,000 per academic year. To be considered, applicants must have at least a 'B' average in high school science or math courses, a minimum of 600 on the Math component of the SAT or a composite score of 24 on the ACT, a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or above, and must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. The Meyerhoff Selection Committee considers students' academic performance, standardized test scores, recommendation letters, and commitment to community service. Students who accept a Meyerhoff Merit Award must major in one of the following STEM disciplines at UMBC: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Statistics. This program is open for full participation by all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or any other protected category under applicable federal law, state law, and the University's nondiscrimination policy. Applications are submitted through Scholarship Retriever; the application goes live August 31 with a priority deadline of December 1 and a final deadline of January 15.
