Description

The Michael Wassmer Foundation is available to graduating high school seniors who live in the city of Richmond, Virginia, or Chesterfield, Hanover, or Henrico counties, Virginia. Students who demonstrate strong academic strength and financial need are welcome to apply. The Michael Wassmer Foundation is proud to award multiple $30,000 need-based scholarships annually to outstanding students in the Richmond area. Recipients will each receive a total of $30,000 paid directly to their school, in four annual installments. To be eligible, an applicant must reside in the City of Richmond or any of the following counties: Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico and Powhatan; be graduating from high school in spring of 2026; have a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 3.5; have submitted the FAFSA or VASA for the upcoming school year and have a Student Aid Index of 25,000 or less; and intend to enroll full time in an accredited four-year U.S. college beginning in fall of 2026. The online application asks that you provide: high school transcript, financial information, a recommendation, employment, community service, extracurricular activities, awards and honors, short essays, and a video submission. January 15th, 2026 — Applications open. March 15th, 2026 — Applications are due. April 15th, 2026 — Recipients are notified. The foundation will award up to 5 scholarships annually. Recipients must maintain a college GPA of 2.5 and remain enrolled full-time. Applicants are selected based upon academic achievement, financial need, and on how closely they reflect Mike Wassmer's core values of determination, compassion, resilience and integrity.
