Walt and Shirlee Peters Scholarship provide financial assistance to residents of Oregon interested in working on an undergraduate degree in natural science, mathematics, or related fields at a college in any state. The Walt and Shirlee Scholarships are awarded annually to one outstanding applicant planning a career in natural science, mathematics, or related fields. The award amount is $10,000. The Oregon Scottish Rite Education Foundation annually awards multiple scholarships to the most promising applicants from across the state of Oregon. A Masonic relationship is not required. Applicants are considered without regard to race, creed, national origin, sex, age or career choice. Applicants must be bona fide residents of the State of Oregon entering and continuing as undergraduates at an accredited college, university, or trade school. Enrollment opens December 1, 2025 and applications close March 30, 2026. Walter LeSieur Peters, 33°, was a member of the Scottish Rite and several other Masonic organizations. Shirlee was also active in several Masonic organizations. Walter and Shirlee made the personal and generous decision to bequeath a large portion of their estate to the Oregon Scottish Rite Education Foundation.
