Kids' Chance of North Carolina Scholarship

The Kids' Chance of North Carolina Scholarship is available to high school seniors and undergraduate students who are children of workers that have been seriously injured or killed in a compensable work-related accident or occupational disease. Students planning to pursue postsecondary education are welcome to apply. Recipients are chosen for their demonstration of financial need. Applicants must be between 16-25 years old at the time of the application and must be a child who is a dependent of a worker killed or seriously injured in a compensable work-related accident or occupational disease with a North Carolina employer. Applicants must be accepted or already enrolled at a university, college or technical school. Scholarships range from $3,000 to $6,000 yearly, and eligible students can reapply for up to four years. Applications and renewals must be submitted by July 30 for the Fall Semester and November 30 for the Spring semester. Required documentation includes: a completed Kids' Chance Scholarship Application; an unofficial transcript of most recent grades; if attending a 2-year or 4-year college or university, a copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) from completing the FAFSA with the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC); and either a copy of the deceased parent's death certificate or proof of compensable injury/illness claim such as a determination letter by the North Carolina Industrial Commission and workers' compensation board.
